Think Minto First program surpasses $121,000 in sales

MINTO – The Minto Chamber of Commerce’s “Think Minto First” fundraising program, launched in 2015 to promote and support local businesses while raising funds for groups and organizations, has exceeded $121,000 in gift certificate sales since 2017.

The program offers an alternative to other gift card sales programs that encourage people to shop outside of the community, chamber officials state in an April 5 press release.

Although the program had a slow start, it has gained momentum over the years, and since 2017, it has raised $22,650 for local not-for-profit organizations while supporting local businesses.

Leading champion

The Harriston and District Horticultural Society has been a leading champion of the program, selling $93,868 in gift certificates since 2017, followed by the Harriston United Church, which has sold $21,647 since 2019.

Additionally, several other sports clubs, schools, and groups have made good use of the program.

“The Harriston Horticultural Society has run many very successful Think Minto First fundraising programs, which has given our organization much-needed funds to continue to beautify the community,” stated Sue Bridge, of the Harriston Horticultural Society.

“Unlike some other fundraisers we have tried, the gift certificates were easy to sell because there was a range of businesses participating and people want to support our fundraising efforts.

“I would highly recommend this program for groups and organizations looking for a creative way to raise funds while keeping support in our community.”

The program’s success is due to the “generosity and support” of the Minto business community, officials note.

“There are currently 31 Minto businesses participants but we are always encouraging our members to come on board,” said Somer Antonopoulos, business development coordaintor for the Minto Chamber of Commerce.
