Temperatures colder than the north pole?

It’s how cold?
Last week weather enthusiast Dave Patrick tweeted that of the 11 years on record at the Elora RCS the previous record cold of -22.1C on Feb. 16, 2004 was shattered by the Feb. 16, 2015 temperature of -30C.
That information was later updated as Enviroment Canada’s Daily Data indicated temperatures dropped to -31.2C.
So far it looks like, the average temperature for February is close to -20C.
However Patrick also noted that on at least one occasion this month, the temperature at the north pole was actually higher than some temperatures in Wellington County.
