Telecommunications cost review approved

Director of finance Sharon Marshall said in a report to council here Telecom Enterprises has presented a proposal for a comprehensive telecommunications review of municipal expenses.

In 2003, a similar review was done, and using its recommendations it generated estimated savings of roughly $5,222 a year. Marshall said Wellington County currently completed a similar review with Telecom Enterprises.

She said county purchasing manager Mark Bolzon, estimated using some of the recommendations should realize savings of about $77,000.

Telecom bases its fees on 50% of the projected monthly savings over an 18 month period, plus 50% of any incorrect or overcharged amounts refunded to the municipality.

The analyst would audit and reconcile the monthly savings for the term of the agreement with Telecom. Staff provide a report to council along with anticipated savings, and financial reconciliation after 18 months. Marshall wrote she was prepared to enter into an agreement with Telecom Enterprises effective immediately.

Council endorsed that recommendation.
