Teen approached by man, woman in beige SUV

Police are asking the public for help to locate a man and a woman who approached a teenager here on Tuesday.

On Jan. 19 at about 3pm, Wellington County OPP received a report from a concerned parent who said her 16-year-old son was approached earlier in the day by a man and woman while he was walking along St. George Street near Gartshore Street in Fergus.

Police say that at about 12pm, the Centre Wellington High School student was walking to his co-op program when he was approached by a beige sport utility vehicle (SUV) that contained two occupants.

“The female driver exited the vehicle and approached the student while the male passenger remained seated,” police stated in a press release.

“The driver asked the teen if he wanted a ride. The teen declined and the driver returned to the vehicle and continued to drive westbound on St. George Street.”

Police describe the female driver as Caucasian, about 40 years old, with shoulder length blonde hair and an average build, wearing a white winter coat.

The male passenger is described as Caucasian, approximately 50 years old, with black, curly hair and a brown and grey moustache.

Wellington County OPP is continuing its investigation and asks anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

“Reinforce to children that they should never accept rides from strangers – even in poor weather conditions,” police stated in the press release.
