Teachers, workers win Everyday Heroes award

The Upper Grand District School Board has announced the winners of its 2012 Everyday Hero awards.

The annual awards, now five years old, celebrate the unsung heroes of the school system who go out of their way to make a difference in the lives and learning of students.   This program is sponsored by the board’s trustees.

At the awards ceremony May 30 in Guelph the board honoured nine individuals and one group as this year’s Everyday Heroes.  This year’s winners are:

– Ann Charles, principal, Eramosa Public School;

– Steve Sherry, drama teacher, Erin District High School;

– Linda Ghent, educational Assistant, J. D. Hogarth Public School;

– Cheryl Baber, teacher, Brisbane Public School; and

– Erin Parent Connection, Rose Wyer-Keller, Bridget Ryan, Andrea Cuthbert, Monique Fisher-Anderson, Suzanne Allen, Jennifer Cuthbertson, Linda Campbell, and Janice Burt.

The criteria for the awards are:

– performance of duties at a high level at all times;

– a  significant school or system-related achievement;

– specific innovation or achievement of significant value or importance to the system; and

– unique circumstance considered worthy of recognition by the board.

Candidates may be nominated by their colleagues, students, parents, or other partners.
