ELORA – High speed collisions have greater fatalities and injuries than low speed collisions and so Centre Wellington annually reviews the speeds on its deadliest and most complained about roads.

Staff analyze road geometry, neighbouring land use, collision history and observed driving speeds on each of the roads before recommending speed reductions.

This year the annual posted speed limit and traffic calming review recommends lowering the speed limits on five roads:

  • Middlebrook Road, from 80 to 60km/h;
  • Noah Road, from 80 to 50km/h;
  • Parkside Drive, from 50 to 40km/h;
  • Woodside Street, from 50 to 40km/h; and
  • St. Andrew Street between St. David Street North and Gartshore Street, from 50 to 40km/h.

Transportation engineering technologist Emily Alessio told council on June 15 that speed limit signs will be installed this summer and fall to bring the new speed limit zones into full legal effect.

Council supported the speed reductions and passed the bylaw.
