Soil removal for dealership approved

Guelph-Eramosa council has approved some preliminary ground work on a car dealership planned for the township.

Tanya Lonsdale of Braun Consulting Engineers met with council on Sept. 2 to discuss removal of top soil from the site where the dealership will be built at 5055 Whitelaw Road.

Lonsdale said the plan is to remove  about 6,000 cubic metres of topsoil that would be relocated to a nearby property.

“This is just asking for the opportunity to move some dirt around,” she told council.

The plan, proposed by Mark Wilson, is for the creation of a new car dealership with some 480 parking spaces for display vehicles.

Lonsdale said that although a site plan for the property has yet to be approved, the applicant is attempting to have the soil moved before the winter sets in.

“Mark Wilson’s Better Used Cars is a business re-locating to the township and they need to take advantage of the 2014 construction season to facilitate a timely and efficient re-location,” she said.

Council was also assured that fill coming back onto the property would come from a local source.
