Smoking materials suspected fire cause

The improper disposal of smoking materials, like cigarettes, is the suspected cause of a house fire on Highway 6 north of Fergus on Nov. 18, a fire official told the Advertiser.

Centre Wellington firefighters received the call around 7:20pm and had the fire out within an hour, Captain Ryan MacDonald said.

“We got there and everybody was out of the house and we noticed that there was an exterior fire on an addition and we put the fire out and … the fire didn’t get into the house,” he said.

The damage estimate was about $25,000 for damage to the exterior of the house and the attic roof area.

“It was a quick knockdown and no one was injured,” MacDonald said.
