Senior with Alzheimer’s bilked out of $25,000 in alleged roofing scam

CENTRE WELLINGTON - A Guelph-Eramosa man has been charged in connection with an alleged roofing scam that bilked a local senior with Alzheimer’s out of more than $25,000.

On Oct. 7, Wellington County OPP responded to a reported fraud at a residence on Sideroad 6 North in  Centre Wellington. Police say an 80-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s was defrauded of over $25,000 by a man known to her who charged her for “numerous” roofing repairs that were never completed.

Alexander Williamson, 25,of Guelph-Eramosa, was charged with fraud over $5,000 and is to appear in Guelph court on March 20.
