School board releases survey about need for before, after school programs

GUELPH— The Upper Grand District School Board Before and/or After School Program (BASP) survey is open to parents and guardians from now until Jan. 31.

This survey is intended to gather information about the number of children who need before and after school care for September 2024 at schools that do not currently offer a BASP.

The UGDSB asks parents and guardians to complete the BASP survey if:

– thier child will be entering junior or senior kindergarten in September 2024 or is currently registered in kindergarten to Grade 5;

– their child will need access to a BASP; and

– a BASP is not already offered in thier child’s school.

Only parents and guardians requiring care at these schools are asked to complete the survey (one per family).

The survey will close at 4pm on Jan. 31 and will not reopen after this point in time.

BASPs within UGDSB schools are not board operated.

It is important to note that the addition of a new BASP is solely reliant on the ability of a third party childcare operator to provide these services.

Information from the survey about before and after school needs is helpful when determining the viability of a new program and understanding the needs of families is helpful for their consideration.

The survey’s completion does not guarantee a BASP will be offered at the child’s school and does not register the child or put them on a wait list.
