Rash of metal plaque thefts uncovered across Wellington County
WELLINGTON COUNTY — Police have uncovered a rash of plaque thefts across Wellington County, following the thefts of three historical plaques in recent weeks from the county's north.
Following two publicized incidents — one in Mapleton and another in Arthur — Wellington County OPP have learned 17 historical and dedication plaques have also gone missing from area bridges.

Since May, 11 plaques have disappeared from county-owned bridges, and another six from bridges in Centre Wellington, according to Wellington OPP Constable Kirk MacDonald.
That brings the total number of stolen plaques to 20.
In recent weeks, an aluminum Ontario Heritage Trust plaque honouring Black settlers at the Queen's Bush Settlement was stolen from Glen Allan Park in Mapleton. And two bronze plaques from the province honouring the Arthur Agricultural Society were removed in Wellington North.
Police are seeking tips and assistance from anyone with information related to the thefts.
