Puslinch ready for Green Legacy program event in early 2012

Puslinch is gearing up for its next Green Legacy Day on April 28.

Mark Van Patter, chairman of Wellington County’s Green Legacy committee wrote to recently regarding the schedule of the 2012 event.

He wrote, “Last spring’s municipal distributions were successful once again with significant donations made by the public to local food banks and other worthy causes. We carry forward, working on our second million trees.”

In anticipation of the 2012 event, the county has reserved 35,000 trees of various species – 5,000 for each of its municipalities.

“I hope we can count on all of our local partners making Wellington a more beautiful and sustainable home. As climate change settles in on the next generation, I am sure they are going to look back and thank our foresight.”

This year, potential dates are aligned with local temperatures, with proposed dates for the more southerly municipalities set before the ones further north.

The dates are as follows:

– April 28 – Centre Wellington, Guelph-Eramosa, Puslinch;

– May 5 – Erin, Mapleton;

– and May 12 Minto and Wellington North.

Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever said in the past, the township’s day has generally been on the first date.

Councillor Wayne Stokley mentioned he would be interested in taking part in the event once again.
