The Ontario Library Association (OLA) recently included Puslinch on its list of recipients for new library building awards.
Wellington County’s Puslinch library branch, designed by L. Allan Grinham, was the branch recognized by the OLA.
The purpose of the OLA New Library Building Awards is to encourage and showcase excellence in the architectural design and planning of libraries in Ontario. The competition runs every third year to allow a critical number of projects in all types of libraries to accumulate.
“I’d like to thank the Ontario Library Association for this recognition,” said Warden Chris White. “The county and Lloyd Grinham worked hard to create a wonderful community space that serves the needs of the Puslinch community. The county is committed to investing in our local municipalities. Quality libraries create educated communities.”
The 5,000 square foot building was constructed using the County’s Green Legacy Building Standards. The branch meets high energy efficient building requirements and has sustainable building features, reducing overall energy consumption.
The branch is completely accessible, includes a multi-purpose room available for public rental, has a meeting space for the Puslinch Historical Society, houses public computer terminals and is equipped with wireless Internet access. A gas fireplace provides a pleasant reading environment for patrons.
The 2013 award presentation will take place in Toronto on July 9. A list of all the recipients can be found on the OLA’s website at www.accessola.org
