Puslinch councillors concerned with possible dam costs

Puslinch councillors are concerned about costs for a spillway for the Conestogo Dam in Mapleton Township.

Mayor Dennis Lever cited correspondence directed to him about  a new emergency spillway could cost $20 million. He considers that News “somewhat alarming.”

He said the idea was for the GRCA to approach the ministry at the recent municipal conference in London to get provincial assistance.

Lever said if the capital project is funded through the municipal levies “it could be a substantial amount money.”

Councillor Wayne Stokley wondered if the GRCA would be going to municipalities for the additional funds.

“It would be a huge cost,” he said.

Lever said his concern is the levy formula would be used to cover costs. Puslinch’s cost may not be as high as others’, but it could still be substantial.
