Public health unit names new board chair

The Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health board unanimously named Doug Auld of Puslinch the new board chair at the 2015 inaugural meeting on Jan. 7.

This will be Auld’s ninth year on the board and he replaces out-going chair Amanda Rayburn-Fines, who has been on the board for 10 years and served as chair for four.

Before officially taking his place as chair, Auld thanked Rayburn-Fines for her years of services.

“It has not always been an easy job, these last four years,” he said. “You’ve always been able to express our feelings about things when you’ve been asked by the media to talk about various issues.

“Amanda probably attended almost all the committee meetings … and there was a lot of those over the last four years, and she even timed the birth of her child so as not to miss a board meeting.”

Nancy Sullivan of Guelph was unanimously named vice-chair of the board and Keith Perron, also of Guelph, was unanimously re-appointed secretary-treasurer.

Along with appointing the executive, the board also named board members to various committees.

Personnel committee

The personnel committee deals with matters of labour relations, engagement and personnel.

The chair of this committee is Keith Perron and members include June Hofland, Margaret Abbink, Guy Gardhouse, Rose Silvestro, Christine Billings and Auld (ex-officio member).

Facilities committee

The facilities committee addresses all matters related to buildings and facilities associated with the organization.

George Bridge is the chair of the committee and other members include Mark MacKinnon, Laura Ryan, Abbink, Nancy Sullivan and Auld (ex-officio member).
