Despite previous concerns expressed by two councillors that it was “overkill,” Erin council has approved a new bylaw that regulates fencing around pools.

The main change is the new bylaw applies to temporary and inflatable pools, whereas previous legislation did not.

At the meeting on April 21 councillor John Brennan proposed that the bylaw exclude temporary pools with walls that are at least three feet high, but there was no seconder for his motion.

The bylaw was passed, as presented, by a 3-1 vote, with just Brennan opposed.

Councillor Ken Chapman, who like Brennan also expressed concern about the bylaw, was absent.
