GUELPH – Police won't disclose details about a 'threat' that led to a lockdown at Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute (GVCI) for over an hour on Thursday afternoon.

"We’re not commenting on the nature of the threat at this time," stated Guelph Police spokesperson Scott Tracey.

The Advertiser had asked for more information after police issued a press release about the incident that was short on details.

Police say they "learned of a threat against" the school just after 1pm on March 12.

"The school was placed in lockdown after consultation with Upper Grand District School Board officials," police stated.

"Officers contained the school and conducted a thorough search. Nothing was found and the threat is believed to be unfounded."

The lockdown was lifted at 2:15pm.

Police vowed to "work closely with school boards to help identify the individuals responsible and lay the appropriate criminal charges when a suspect is identified."

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Constable Cecilia Hudecki at 519-824-1212, ext. 7215, email chudecki@guelphpolice.ca or leave an anonymous tip for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or csgw.tips.
