Police looking for clues after pedestrian injured

Police are looking for clues after a pedestrian was injured in an apparent hit and run here on Nov. 13.

At about 5:30pm Wellington County OPP officers and Wellington North firefighters responded to a report of a female pedestrian injured on George Street in Arthur.

"A passing motorist observed the female standing in the middle of the road waiting for traffic," police said in a press release. "After passing the female, the motorist looked in his rear view mirror and saw the female lying on the roadway."

Police say a 64-year-old woman from Centre Wellington was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

"It is unknown what caused the injury," police said in the press release.

On Nov. 16 OPP media relations officer Cheri Rockefeller said the woman was in stable condition "and being held for observation" at hospital.

Shortly after the incident, rumours circulating in the community indicated it was a hit and run, and police seemed to confirm that suspicion.

"The collision is considered a fail to remain (at the scene of an accident)," Rockefeller told the Advertiser.

She said police could only describe the suspect vehicle as "dark-coloured" and "mid-sized" as the "make and model are unknown."

Police are asking any witnesses to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.  To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip on-line at www.csgw.tips.
