Police beat: Third person charged with assaulting officers
FERGUS – A third person has been charged in connection with the assault of two police officers here earlier this month.
Around 8am on July 11, two OPP officers attended a Fergus residence and were assaulted while attempting to make an arrest, according to a Wellington OPP news release. The officers sustained minor injuries.
On July 18, Jacinta Davidson, 40, of Fergus, was charged with assaulting and obstructing a police officer, possession of stolen property obtained by crime (under $5,000) and theft (under $5,000).
The accused is to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 29.
Previously charged with similar offences were Josiah Burton, 21, and Jayce Burton, 18, both of Fergus.
Weapons charges
WALLENSTEIN – A local resident is facing weapon charges following a police search here earlier this month.
Wellington County OPP officials say police executed a search warrant at a residence in Wallenstein, “in relation to a weapons investigation,” on July 9 at about 9am.
“The search resulted in the seizure of five firearms and assorted ammunition,” police stated in a press release.
A 67-year-old from Wallenstein was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless storage of a firearm. The accused is to appear in Guelph court on a later date.
“The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victim(s),” police stated, though they did not provide more information.
Trespassing, threat charges
ARKELL – A Guelph man is facing threat and trespassing charges following an incident here last weekend.
Wellington County OPP officials say police responded to a “report of an individual trespassing at a residence in Arkell” on July 18 at about 11:45pm.
Sayid Ali Mahboobi, 37, of Guelph, was charged with trespassing at night, uttering threats (to cause death or bodily harm) and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
He is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
ATV crash
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – One person was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries following an ATV crash here last weekend.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, at a residence on Highway 7 in Guelph/Eramosa, on July 18 at about 11:30am.
“The driver of the ATV was transported to a local trauma centre with life-threatening injuries,” police stated in a press release.
Careless charge
PUSLINCH – A Guelph man has been charged with careless driving after a serious two-vehicle crash here.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, on Wellington Road 32 in Puslinch Township, on July 9 at about 3:30pm.
Wellington County OPP officials say the crash involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck.
“The driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” police stated in a press release.
A 64-year-old man from Guelph was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Serious crash
ERIN – Two people were sent to hospital – one airlifted – following a crash here last week between a dump truck and an SUV.
Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Patrick Drive and 8th Line in Erin on July 16 at about 12:15pm.
“The driver from the SUV was transferred via ambulance to a local trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries, while the passenger of the SUV was airlifted to a local trauma centre with non-life-threatening injures,” stated a press release from the Wellington County OPP.

Partner violence
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.
Those arrested include:
– a 45-year-old from Erin, who was charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm (choke, suffocate or strangle), uttering threats (to cause death or bodily harm) and mischief (destroy/damage property) in relation to an incident in Erin on July 13;
– a 38-year-old from Kitchener, who was charged with breach of recognizance in relation to an incident in Fergus on July 18;
– a 25-year-old from Huron East, who was charged with domestic mischief in relation to an incident in Palmerston on July 18;
– a 46-year-old from Pembroke, who was charged with spousal assault and domestic mischief in relation to an incident in Erin on July 18.
The accused individuals are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
