Police beat: Several charges for driver pulled over in Fergus recently

FERGUS – A driver from Utterson, near Huntsville, faces a number of charges after being pulled over by police recently.

On Nov. 12 at about 4:30pm, a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic along Tower Street South in Fergus. 

Police say the officer saw a white pickup truck pulling a trailer with an improperly secured load.

A 62-year-old driver from Utterson was charged with pulling a trailer with no plate, no red light on rear of trailer, driving an unsafe combination of vehicles, load not secured, improper means of attachment, defective brakes, defective horn, improper tires, and improper brakes on a trailer.

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 7.

‘Partner violence’

NORTH PERTH –  Police have charged a Harriston resident following an intimate partner violence investigation.

On Dec. 10 just before 9pm, Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to an address in North Perth.

A 22-year-old Harriston resident was arrested and charged with mischief and two counts of spousal assault.

The accused is to appear in Stratford court at a later date.

Driving charges

MINTO – On Nov. 27 at about 2:30am, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Blind Line here.

A 47-year-old Durham man was charged with failing to comply with a release order, driving without a permit, using unauthorized plates, driving without insurance and three counts of driving while suspended.

Stunt leads to ditched van

MAPLETON – On Nov. 25 at about 11:30pm, emergency crews responded to a collision on Wellington Road 8 here.

Wellington County OPP officials say a grey van was located in the ditch. 

A 20-year-old driver from Listowel was charged with performing a stunt and is to appear in Guelph court on March 6.

Suspended driver found with open liquor

ARTHUR – On Nov. 25 at about 8pm, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a purple sedan on Tucker Street here.

A 27-year-old driver from Guelph was charged with driving while suspended and driving with an open container of liquor.

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court on March 6.

No insurance but has cannabis

MOUNT FOREST – On Nov. 23 at about 9:30pm, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a blue sedan on Fergus Street South here.

A 41-year-old driver from Hanover was charged with driving while suspended, using unauthorized plates, driving without insurance and driving with cannabis readily available.

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court on March 6.
