Police beat: Police officers assaulted

MOUNT FOREST – On May 7 at about 10pm, Wellington County OPP responded to a report of an intoxicated person on Queen Street West here.

Police say officer attended and located the suspect on the street. An officer attempted to arrest the suspect for public intoxication. The person resisted arrest, assaulted police, and then tried to disarm an officer,” police stated in a press release.

“A second officer was also assaulted when they arrived to assist. Two OPP officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.”

Justin Hunter-Bechard, 35, of Mount Forest, was charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, disarming a peace officer and assault with intent to resist arrest. He is to appear in Guelph court on June 8.
