Police beat: OPP Easter traffic safety campaign stats
LONDON – OPP West Region officers charged nearly 200 drivers for failing to wear a seatbelt during the Easter long weekend traffic campaign.
The campaign, which ran from March 29 to April 1, , focused on seatbelt compliance. Police say West Region officers conducted over 3,200 traffic stops over the long weekend – the highest number of traffic stops of any OPP Region in Ontario.
The results included:
194 seatbelt charges;
1,559 speeding charges (the most laid of any OPP Region in Ontario);
40 stunt driving/racing charges;
27 distracted driving charges and
29 impaired driving charges.
