Police beat: Mischief, assault charges

PALMERSTON – On June 8 at about 7:45pm, Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a person causing a disturbance at a business on Main Street West here.

“Initial reports indicated that the individual had caused damage to the business as well,” police stated in a press release.

Daniel James Chamney, 43, of Palmerston, was charged with mischief (destroying or damaging property), committing an indecent act in a public place, assault with a weapon and uttering threats (to damage property).

He was held pending a bail hearing. 

Numerous charges

PUSLINCH – On May 23 at about 4am, Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a black pickup truck on Gilmour Road here.

Police say “the vehicle had been involved in a near by collision and that the driver had also been involved in an intimate partner violence event.”

A 29-year-old from Scarborough was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand for a breath sample, flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, and forcible confinement. 

The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Careless driving

FERGUS – On May 25 at about 3pm, Wellington Count OPP responded to a report of a collision on Beatty Line here.

Police say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and suffered minor injuries. 

A 58-year-old driver from Fergus was charged with careless driving and unlawfully driving in a construction zone,  and is to appear in Guelph court on Aug. 23.

More carelessness

ARTHUR – On May 26 at about 6:15am, Wellington Count OPP responded to a report of a collision on George Street here.

Police say a single vehicle was involved and there were no injuries. 

A 52-year-old driver from Waterdown was charged with careless driving and driving without insurance, and is to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 13.

Stolen vehicle

MAPLETON – On June 6 at about 8:30am, the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a commercial motor vehicle on Wellington Road 7 that had left the roadway. 

“The driver was located and was uninjured. Investigation determined that the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day,” police stated.

Dustin Geisel, 27, of Hanover, was charged with theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, careless driving, driving with cannabis readily available, and driving without a licence. 

He is to appear in Guelph court on Aug. 1.   

No stop at school crossing

MOUNT FOREST – On May 11 at about 3:45pm a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Main Street North here. 

Police say the officer saw a red SUV fail to stop at a school crossing. 

An 82-year-old driver from Mount Forest was charged with failing to obey a school crossing stop sign.

Probation violation

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On May 10, Wellington County OPP responded to “an address” here.

Police say officers started what they call “an intimate partner violence investigation.”

A 34-year-old resident of Chesley was charged with failing to comply with a probation order and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Cannabis charge

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On May 15 at about 4pm, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a silver sedan on Wellington Road 7 here.

A  30-year-old driver from Kitchener was charged with driving without insurance, driving with cannabis readily available, driving while suspended and driving without a validated permit. 

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court on July 19.
