Police beat: Man charged after OPP cruiser rammed with trailer

PUSLINCH – A Haldimand County man faces numerous charges after police had to physically remove a suspect from a stolen vehicle that had rammed a cruiser with a trailer.

On Jan. 15 at about 6am, Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle being tracked via GPS in the area of Concession 11, near Wellington Road 34 in Puslinch Township.

Police tracked a white pickup truck reported stolen from Haldimand County to a horse track compound in the area.

OPP officials say officers located a man standing next to the vehicle and trailer, which was loaded with a mini excavator and a skid steer that were also reported stolen.

“When officers approached, the suspect re-entered the vehicle and attempted to flee,” police stated in a press release.

“When the suspect became cornered, [he] reversed the trailer into a cruiser causing significant damages. Officers were able to gain physical control of the suspect and remove [him] from the vehicle.”

Police say a search uncovered a quantity of methamphetamine and stolen property, including electronics and car rims.

Ryan Neal Ellerker, 41, of Haldimand, was charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and suspended driving. He was held for bail.

Woman steals keys,

kicks side of car

PALMERSTON – A Minto woman has been charged in connection with a disturbance call that included the attempted theft of a vehicle that was also kicked several times.

On Jan. 15 at about 10:30am, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a public disturbance on Main Street in Palmerston.

Police say a woman was kicking the side of a vehicle parked in front of a restaurant and creating a traffic hazard.

The investigation revealed the suspect entered the restaurant and took keys from the table of a couple known to her and ran back outside.

“The owner of the vehicle blocked the driver’s door in an effort to prevent the vehicle from being stolen. The suspect proceeded to kick the side of the car creating three large dents,” police stated in a press release.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in an incident that occurred earlier that morning where the same victim’s purse was stolen.”

Calesha Lynn Lee, 28, of Minto, was charged with mischief over $5,000 and theft under $5,000. She was held for a bail hearing.

Trailer break-in

PUSLINCH – On Jan. 3, Wellington County OPP received a report of a break-in to a utility trailer parked on a rural property on Watson Road here.

Police say that sometime between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, someone gained entry into a locked trailer a construction site.

A number of tools were stolen, including a Honda 5,000 watt generator, Hitachi framing nailer, Bostitch straight nail gun, joist hanging nailer, five 100-foot air hoses and six 100-foot extension cords.

The suspect(s) also caused about $400 worth of damage to the trailer, police stated.
