Police Beat: Fergus woman charged with drug possession

Drug charge

CENTRE WELLINGTON – A Fergus woman has been charged with drug possession following a traffic stop here last month.

Wellington County OPP officials say an officer stopped the driver of a black sedan while monitoring traffic on Highway 6, south of Fergus, on Dec. 16 at about 3am.

Abigail Turner, 29, of Fergus, was charged with driving while prohibited, possession of a Schedule I substance (opioid) and six counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. 

She is to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 9.

Driving on closed road

FERGUS – A local resident has been charged after police say a driver went through a closed road here last month.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers closed a section of Tower Street South in Fergus for a collision on Dec. 15.

At about 8:30am, “a grey sedan drove through the road closure,” police stated in a press release.

A 20-year-old driver from Fergus was charged with careless driving and driving an unsafe vehicle. The defendant is to appear in Guelph court on March 6.

Threatened police

ARTHUR – An Arthur man has been charged with uttering threats during a confrontation with police here last month.

On Dec. 20 at about 8:30pm, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the operator of an E-bike on Tucker Street in Arthur.

Police say the man  then “became confrontational with police.”

Jake Orin O’Shaughnessy, 29, of Arthur, was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and resisting a peace officer. He was held for bail and is to appear in court at a later date.

Christmas Eve fishtailing leads to charges

FERGUS – On Dec. 24 at about 7:30pm a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Tower Street South here.

Police say the officer  saw the driver of a grey coupe was “fishtailing.” 

A 41-year-old driver from Fergus was charged with performing a stunt, driving without a valid permit and driving without insurance. 

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court on April 3.

Truck charges

ELORA – On Dec. 16 at about 4:15pm, a Wellington County OPP officer monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 21 in Elora stopped the driver of a commercial motor vehicle.

A 69-year-old driver from West Montrose was charged with nine violations in total, including driving with an improper licence, driving with an improperly secured load and driving with a defective braking system.
