Drugs, tobacco, assault

FERGUS – On April 1 at about 1am, a Wellington County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop on Belsyde Avenue near Tower Street here.

Police say the officer  observed several packages of suspected contraband tobacco within the vehicle and also recovered suspected crystal methamphetamine from the vehicle.

“When the driver was placed under arrest, it was reported that they became combative and assaulted a police officer,” police stated in a press release.

Jason Desroche, 36, of Guelph, was charged with assaulting a peace officer,  possession of unmarked cigarettes and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Samantha Plouffe-Vachon, 30, of Durham, was charged with possession of unmarked cigarettes and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Both are to appear in Guelph court on May 4.

Catalytic converters taken

ALMA – On March 29, Wellington County OPP received reports of stolen catalytic converters from pick-up trucks at two businesses on Peel Street in Alma.

Police say that sometime between March 28 at 11pm and March 29 at 7am, someone removed four catalytic converters from pick-up trucks parked at the two businesses.

On March 30, Wellington County OPP also received a complaint of an attempted theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle that was parked at an address on Clyde Street in Mount Forest.

“It’s believed that this incident occurred during the same time frame as the previous thefts,” police stated in a press release.
