POLICE BEAT: Brass knuckles, booze, drugs lead to charges

HARRISTON – A local man faces 11 charges after being caught by police following a brief foot pursuit here recently.

Just prior to noon on Jan. 17, Wellington County OPP officers on patrol in the area of Louise Street in Harriston observed an unlicensed driver operating a vehicle. 

Police say the driver pulled into a private driveway and fled on foot behind the residence. A brief foot pursuit ensued and the male was eventually taken into custody. 

Police say a search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of methamphetamine, hydromorphone, psilocybin, drug paraphernalia, open alcohol and brass knuckles.

Joseph Yorke, 49, of Harriston, was held for a bail hearing and was charged with:

– operating a vehicle while prohibited;

– possession of an unauthorized weapon;

– resisting arrest;

– possession of psilocybin;

– possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;

– possession of hydromorphone;

– driving without a valid permit;

– driving with alcohol readily available; and

– three counts of driving while suspended.

Tools taken

CENTRE WELLINGTON,  – On Jan. 20 at about 1:50pm Wellington County OPP received a report of a break-in to a shed at a seasonal property on Elm Place in Maple Leaf Acres.

Police say sometime between Jan. 18 and 20 someone smashed a glass window and stole a quantity of tools valued at about $5,000.

Attempted theft

PUSLINCH – On Jan. 21 Wellington County OPP received a report of a vehicle and barn being entered overnight at a residence on Townline Road here.

Police say the barn and the vehicle were both unlocked.

“The suspect attempted to steal a small ATV that was in the barn; however, the battery was dead and it was later located in the ditch, just off the driveway,” police stated in a press release. “The complainant’s personal property from the vehicle was strewn about in the snow, but thankfully in this incident, nothing appears to have been stolen.”

Drug charges

PERTH EAST – A Wellington North man is among two facing drug charges after being caught by police here last week.

On Jan. 25 Perth County OPP officers  stopped a suspicious vehicle in Milverton and observed suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the car. 

Shaunnice White, 21, of Wellington North, was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Codie Bloom, 26, of Southgate, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and failing to comply with a probation order.

Both men are to appear in Stratford court on Feb. 25.
