Police beat: Assault with a weapon

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Grand Bend resident is facing charges after a disturbance on Wellington Road 86.

Eric Coonan, 33, was charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of trespassing at night after Wellington County OPP were called about a suspicious person causing a disturbance at two residences.

GUELPH/ERAMOSA - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into Wellington County OPP’s involvement related to a single-vehicle collision.

On Sept. 20 at around 4am, the OPP attempted to stop a vehicle in the township, states a police news release.

The driver didn’t stop, and police broke off pursuit.

“A short time later, the vehicle was located after a single-vehicle collision,” police said in the release.

Police said “one occupant” was taken to hospital. It’s unclear if the occupant was the driver.

The SIU’s mandate includes investigating cases where law enforcement involvement results in injury.
