Police beat: Assault, trespass, theft

PUSLINCH – A Moorefield man has been charged with assault, trespassing and theft following an “unwanted person” call here.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers responded to the call on Watson Road South in Puslinch on Sept. 25.

“The homeowner located a person on their property who was allegedly trying to commit a theft,” police stated in a press release. “Upon confronting the person, the homeowner was assaulted.”

Edward A. Oster, 45, of Moorefield, was charged with assault, trespassing at night and theft under $5,000. He is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Tractor theft thwarted

MAPLETON – An Arthur teen faces theft, cannabis and liquor charges after allegedly trying to steal a tractor.

Wellington County OPP officials say police responded to a property on Sideroad 21 in Mapleton on Sept. 25.

“It was reported that a tractor was being stolen  … The complainants were able to prevent the person from leaving the scene until officers arrived,” police stated in a press release.

A 16-year-old from Arthur was charged with theft under $5,000, being under 19 and having liquor, and being under 19 and having cannabis. The accused  is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Truck taken

MOUNT FOREST – Police are asking for assistance to identify a person of interest and to locate a pickup truck that was stolen from a business here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say police were called on Sept. 28 at about 2am about someone attempting to steal a vehicle from a business on Industrial Drive.

“The person then attended a second business on Industrial Drive and stole a pickup truck,” police stated in a press release.

The pickup truck is described as a red 2016 diesel crew cab Chevrolet Silverado with “1138483 LTD” in bold black lettering on the front quarter panels on both sides of the truck. Ontario license plates “8782NX” were attached to the vehicle.

The person of interest is described as wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, beige jacket and camouflage pants with a black backpack.

Stolen e-bike

HARRISTON – Police are looking for help to locate a stolen e-bike.

Wellington County OPP officials say that on Sept. 23, sometime between 12:30am and 1:30pm, someone stole a black Jetson E-bike parked outside of a business on Elora Street South in Harriston.

Trailer theft

MINTO – Wellington County OPP officials are trying to locate a stolen trailer.

On Sept. 30, police responded to a report of a trailer being stolen from a residence on Highway 23. 

Police say that sometime overnight between Sept. 29  and 30, someone stole a utility trailer from the victim’s driveway.

Unauthorized plates

CLIFFORD – On Sept. 26, a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Elora Street North here.

At about 4:45pm, the officer saw a vehicle travelling at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. 

A 24-year-old driver from Walkerton was charged with speeding, using unauthorized plates, failing to apply for an owner’s permit and driving without insurance. 

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date. 

Suspended driver

ARTHUR – On Sept. 22 at about 8:30am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the operator of a black pick-up truck on Frederick Street East here. 

A 44-year-old driver from Georgetown was charged with driving while suspended, using unauthorized plates, failing to apply for an owner’s permit and driving without insurance. 

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date. 

Suspended driver

GUELPH-ERAMOSA – On Sept. 10 at about 10:30pm, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Marden Road. 

Police say a 24-year-old driver from Milton was charged with driving while suspended and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Careless driving

NORTH PERTH – A Palmerston resident has been charged with careless driving after a collision here last weekend.  

Perth County OPP officials say emergency crews responded to the two vehicle crash on Perth Road 164 on Oct. 1 at about 4:40pm.

“Initial reports indicated that one of the vehicles collided with the rear of another vehicle,” police stated in a press release.

No injuries were reported.

A 36-year-old driver from Palmerston was charged with careless driving and is to appear in court at a later date.
