Police beat: Arrest in LCBO thefts
GUELPH – A Guelph man has been arrested following the theft of almost $3,300 worth of products from a Guelph LCBO.
Guelph Police officials say that between March 31 and April 27, a man entered a west-end LCBO on three occasions.
“Each time he placed numerous bottles of alcohol in shopping bags and walked out, making no attempt to pay,” police stated. “LCBO investigators recognized the man from similar investigations in other jurisdictions.”
On March 24 a 30-year-old Guelph man was arrested on three counts of theft under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing three days later.
Indecent act
GUELPH – An individual has been charged after committing an indecent act in Guelph.
Wellington County OPP officials say an officer “was conducting proactive patrol” on March 29 at about 9:15pm, when they saw “an individual committing an indecent act outside of a business on Wellington Street East in Guelph.”
A 29-year-old of no fixed address was charged with committing an indecent act in a public place and is to appear in Guelph court on June 19.
Careless driving
MAPLETON – A Wingham driver is charged following a collision outside of Moorefield.
Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer on Wellington Road 9, outside of Moorefield, on March 23 at about 9:45am.
“There were no reported injuries and there were no animals on board the trailer,” Wellington County OPP officials stated in a press release.
A 41-year-old from Wingham was charged with careless driving and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Partner violence
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.
Those arrested include:
– a 31-year-old from Guelph/Eramosa who was charged with uttering threats to damage property, two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of domestic mischief in relation to an incident in Guelph/Eramosa on March 29 that left two people with minor injuries; and
– a 55-year-old from Erin who was charged with assault and mischief (under $5,000) in relation to an incident in Erin on March 29.
The accused individuals are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Fake gun, real charge
GUELPH – A Guelph man faces a weapon charge after twice showing off a supposed handgun in a busy mall last Saturday.
Guelph Police officials say they “received reports of a man inside Stone Road Mall lifting his sweater to reveal a black pistol tucked in his waistband during a dispute between two groups of friends” on March 28 at about 5:30pm.
“Several officers attended the mall and quickly located the man outside. A pellet gun was recovered.”
A 19-year-old man is charged with carrying a concealed weapon. He is to appear in Guelph court on June 23.
Police say “replica firearms can cause concern in the community” and “officers responding to such calls must assume the item is a real firearm until proven otherwise.”
