OPP officer charged

A Wellington County OPP officer has been charged following a collision here last week involving a police cruiser.

On Oct. 22 at 8:40am Wellington County OPP investigated a collision involving one of its cruisers and a civilian vehicle on Wellington Road 6 in North Wellington.

Police say the officer was traveling northbound on Wellington Road 6 when the cruiser stopped behind another northbound vehicle.

“The lead vehicle began to move forward (but) then stopped, at which point the cruiser struck the rear of the lead vehicle,” police stated in a press release.

Both vehicles received minor damage but there were no injuries reported.

Provincial constable Andrew Pelkie, who has been with the OPP for five years,  was issued a ticket for making an unsafe start from the stopped position.
