OPP, MTO conduct blitz

Police laid over two dozen charges and took nine vehicles out of service during a recent blitz on popular trucking routes in the area.

On April 4, Wellington County OPP conducted a joint forces initiative with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) in Erin, focusing on the routes surrounding Trafalgar Road and Wellington Roads 124 and 125.

Police say officers conducted 33 commercial vehicle inspections resulting in: nine commercial vehicles taken out of service, 13 defective equipment violations and seven over-weight violations and 10 traffic violations.

“These results are not what we were hoping for,” said Wellington County OPP Inspector Scott Lawson.

“There continues to be an increase in commercial vehicle activity around the county, especially in our southern municipalities, so it’s clear we have to build on the relationships we’ve established in the community to address some of these challenges together.”

Police urge the public to be vigilant in reporting any motor vehicle that appears to be unsafe.
