OPP issue warning after another vehicle theft

Police are looking for clues after a resident here had a vehicle stolen from her own property.

Wellington County OPP received a report that a 2003 Ford van was stolen on Feb. 2 from a farm on Wellington Road 87 in Minto.

“The owner left the van keys with it, along with her purse while doing the chores on the property,” police stated in a press release.

“She returned to where it was parked and noticed it gone. It was recovered four days later in another city.”

OPP officials say stolen vehicles “are often used to commit other crimes” and they are urging all residents to lock vehicles at all times.

Police are also offering the following tips:

– lock vehicle doors and remove the keys;

– never leave a running vehicle unattended;

– roll up the windows;

– remove valuables from the vehicle;

– park in well-lit areas with high traffic; and

– where possible park vehicles in a garage and lock the vehicle and garage doors.

“Remember, if you see something, say something,” police urge. “If you see suspicious persons or behaviour approaching your vehicle or roaming the area, call the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.”

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip at www.csgw.tips.
