OPP investigate threat of violence at high school

A threat of violence at a local high school on Thursday turned out to be bogus.

On May 26 at about 10:50am, Wellington County OPP received information of "a possible threat of violence" at Centre Wellington District High School.

"Both police and the school initiated appropriate protocol ensuring the safety of students and staff," states an OPP press release.

"Police and school staff conducted a search of the property with nothing suspicious being located. Police are continuing to investigate, however have determined no threat exists at this time."

Police are reminding the public that all threats at schools are taken seriously and that it is an offence to cause a police investigation by making false statements accusing someone of a crime.

Anyone with any information relating to this or any other inappropriate school activity is urged to call Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip on-line at www.csgw.tips.
