Open house celebrates 25 years of community support services

The Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington County are celebrating 25 years of helping families and individuals throughout our region.

On May 24, the organization is hosting an open house from 4 to 7pm, welcoming the community in to learn more about its services and the people behind it.

“An event like this gives us an opportunity to  let people know where we are and what we do, if they need us,” said executive director, Kate Power.

Offering a wide range of resources and support, the organization offers services such as: credit and debit counselling; employee assistance programs; individual, couple and family counselling; sexual abuse support; support for children with developmental disabilities, case manage support for adults with developmental disabilities.

Programs include Violence Against Women; Partner Assault Response; Anger Management; Families and Schools Together, and support for seniors at risk for suicide.

Their work reaches throughout Wellington County, including work with  the Rural Women’s Support Network, in Fergus and  through the Claire Stewart Clinic, in Mount Forest.

“We are welcoming back former clients and former board members, and of course, people from the community who want to see what we do and what we’re all about,” Power explained.

Guelph Mayor Karen Farbridge will  begin the event with a formal introduction, followed by Guelph MPP Liz Sandals. Formal presentations will follow. The event is a drop-in invitation.

“We are extremely excited to welcome the community,” Power said. “We would love to hear from the community about how we can better help them.”

The event will include the creation of a time capsule, to mark the organization’s work to date.

The Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington County, located at 109 Surrey Street East in Guelph, will host its open house on May 24, from 4 to 7pm, with a short program from 5:15 to 5:30pm.
