The fire and rescue department is reminding residents open air burning permits are required.

Permits can be purchased online at www.centrewellington.ca or at the administration offices at the Fergus fire station or the civic centre in Elora.

The Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue Department, as per the Ontario Fire Code, advises all open air burning within the township requires a permit.

This includes: outdoor fireplaces, recreational campfires and all outdoor fires.

Permits are valid to the end of the calendar year in which they were issued.

A fee of $25 is applicable.

Any variance to the standard open air burning permit must be approved.

If an inspection of the site is required by the public safety officer, a permit fee of $40 is applicable.
