Officers assaulted in Fergus
FERGUS – Wellington County OPP officers were assaulted while checking on a person to ensure they were complying with court-ordered release conditions on July 11. At around 8am, two OPP officers attended a Fergus residence and were assaulted while attempting to make an arrest, according to a news release. The officers sustained minor injuries.
Josiah Burton, 21, of Fergus, was charged with two counts each of assaulting and obstructing an officer, as well as mischief and failure to comply with release conditions. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Jayce Burton, 18, of Fergus, was charged with assaulting and obstructing a police officer, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and theft under $5,000.
The accused was released from custody and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
