Obituary

Garth was born in Toronto on December 12th, 1961 to James Desmond and Arlie Mabel (Dougherty) Rooney. Garth passed away peacefully, after a short illness, at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus, on October 10th, 2025 in his 64th year. He enjoyed playing Lacrosse and worked various jobs after high school. Garth eventually started a new job at  Newdon Industries in Fergus, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement at age 60. Mom always called Garth her “Gentle Giant”. He would always take his mom to any appointments during the day, without complaint, even though he worked straight midnights. His favourite pastime was to grab a coffee, go for a drive and have a smoke. This did not bode well. Garth is survived by his brothers and sister: Paul Rooney, Margann Rooney, Brian Rooney and his best buddy Bob Rooney, as well as Bob’s wife, Brenda (nee: Clark) Rooney. Predeceased by his sister Colleen Walker (2002). The family would like to thank Dr. Vanderleest for his kind, direct and compassionate manner and the nurses and staff at the Hospital. It meant a lot. Garth will be laid to rest with his parents at the Elora Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Groves Memorial Hospital. Arrangements were entrusted to Graham A.
