ROGERS, M. Jean (Alexander)

Age 93 of Elora, Ontario, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. Predeceased by her husband George (1988), infant daughter Marie (1958), great-grandson Austin (2014), parents Bill & Mary Alexander, brothers Bill & Jim and sister Joan (Louttit), as well as many brother and sister in-laws. Fondly remembered by her children Mary Anne (Joe), Marg (Doug), Maureen (Erwin) & George (Laurie). Grandchildren Lynn (Neil), Joey (Jen), Rob, Kevin (Kelly), Chad, Carrie (Terry), Stacy (Curtis), Stephanie (Danny) & Nicole (Kyle) and 14 great-grand children. Survived by her sister Betty Barclay of British Columbia. Jean was born on the family farm in Belwood in 1925 to Bill & Mary Alexander. She moved to the Town of Fergus to help out with the war effort at the old Beatty Brother Building. She married George in 1949 and had their first house together in Salem, before moving to Lot 18 and finally settling in Elora. George & Jean enjoyed many trips through Northern Ontario with Bob & Gwen Graham. Mom would accept an occasional ride to various places, but if she was in a hurry she would walk and wore out a lot of sidewalks in Elora. After George passed she became more adventurous and travelled to Spain, Grand Canyon, Chicago, Branson, Dollywood and Disney World. She was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 229 in Elora. She wants to make sure that the ladies taking over her duties put the silverware away properly and in the containers right way up. Many thanks to Dr. Brault for his care and compassion and the staff at Groves Memorial Hospital. Thanks to Jim and Vi Young for all of the adventures they took mom on all the years, especially the road trip to B.C. Thanks also to Althea Miller for her great friendship. (She especially enjoyed your trips to the Grand River Casino.) As per mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Private family burial will follow at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Donations in Jean’s memory can be made to the Groves Memorial Hospital Building Foundation or the Elora Legion Branch 229.
