MORRISON (nee Frid), Barbara – Jean Kathleen, of Guelph, passed away at Riverside Glen on Thursday, February 11th in her 87th year.Barbara was born on Liverpool Street in Guelph, in 1928, to Walter and Kathleen Frid, and was the younger sister to Doreen. She married William Douglas Morrison in 1949 and was the mother of Jo-Anne (Dennis), Jacqueline (Paul), Douglas (Emily) and Scott (Brenda); grandmother to Geraldine, Douglas (Christina), David, Craig (Anneliese), Duncan (Carmen), Colleen and Blair; “grandma-great” to Mackenzie, Mercedes, Lauren, Jacob, Daniel, Clara, Ava and Emmanuel. Having come to faith in Jesus her Lord and Saviour in her early years, celebrated by baptism at Muskoka Bible Centre, Huntsville in 1945, her faith continued to grow and remained precious to her to the very end. Barbara mothered her four children intentionally, instilling faith in them, while modeling a ministry of hospitality. In the church she used her gifts in a variety of ways, including assisting in Pioneer Girls leadership, playing the piano, knitting for missions, serving in church administration, baking and setting tables for her seniors’ group. In the wider community, Barbara could be found assisting with the local hospital auxiliary, visiting seniors in nursing homes, serving on the executive of Christian Women’s Club, mentoring young people and hosting the Hymn Sing at the Village by the Arboretum. The work she did vocationally she loved. Before her marriage she was a medical clerk at Hamilton General Hospital. Later, when she returned to work, she found new ventures in real estate, matching houses and people. Barbara and Doug spent many years travelling, with their fondest memories of their time in England and Scotland. The last nine months were without a doubt challenging both physically and spiritually. Yet despite this, people spoke often about the way they were impacted by her faith and kindness. Thank you everyone at Riverside Glen for your loving care — of our Mom. Friends will be received at Crestwicke Baptist Church, 400 Speedvale Ave. E., Guelph, on Sunday, February 21st for a gathering time from 3-4 p.m., and at 4 p.m. a memorial service, with reception to follow. Memorial contributions to Muskoka Bible Centre or Crestwicke Baptist Church.
