James Edward Morphy of Palmerston, passed away at Palmerston Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, in his 78th year. Husband of the late Verna (Bridge) Morphy who passed away on September 27, 2020. Loving father of Jamie Morphy & Treasure Kauppila of Stouffville, Sherry & Rob Burr of Cambridge, and Shelley & Chad Campbell of Palmerston. Proud grandfather of Riley Burr & Emma Kuchma, Tanner Burr, Kaden Burr, Tailor & Frankie Farrell, and Tucker Campbell & Erin Collins. Brother-in-law of Debra & Bob Wanless of Holland Centre, and remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents Ralph and Mary (Poirier) Morphy, parents-in-law Ross and Grace Bridge, sister Barb Schwartzentruber, sister-in-law Judy Thackeray. Jim was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy was his family. His love for them was unwavering, and he cherished every moment spent together. Over the past two years, the incredible support from his close-knit circle of friends meant the world to him and his loved ones. A mechanic by trade, Jim was also a gifted carpenter and electrician—there was little he couldn’t fix or build. His hands were skilled, but it was his heart that truly defined him. Jim proudly served with the Minto Fire Department for 42 years, retiring in 2014 as Chief of Apparatus & Equipment. His dedication to the department and his fellow firefighters was unmatched. Among his many accomplishments, one of the most memorable was serving as a firefighter during the G8 Summit in Huntsville, Ontario in 2010—a moment that filled him with pride. Jim’s legacy is one of service, craftsmanship, friendship, and above all, love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service was held at James Street United Church, Palmerston, on Monday, September 8, 2025 at 11:00am. The funeral was livestreamed and the link available on the funeral home website. Emergency service personnel were encouraged to wear their dress uniform. Reception followed at the Palmerston Legion. Interment in Palmerston Cemetery. Memorial donations to Palmerston Hospital or Ronald McDonald House would be appreciated.
