McMEEKIN, John Eldon

April 20, 1931 - August 15, 2025

It is with great love that we announce the passing of John Eldon McMeekin, who left this world at the age of 94. Born a country boy, John went on to live a remarkable life of adventure-traveling the globe, owning multiple homes, and sharing his love of jazz, boating, movies, and the outdoors with friends and family. Known for his dazzling smile, strong spirit, and independent nature, John was an eagle who lived wild and free. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Ellen; his parents, Jack and Nellie; his brothers, Robert, Lennie, and Bruce; and his grandson, Eros Dawn, brother-in-law, Perrin, nephew, David and sister-in-law, Dody. He will be forever missed by his daughters, Ellen Ray (Peter) and Jacki-Dawn; his dedicated partner, Maureen; his siblings, Bill (Helen) and Marlene; sister-in-law, Sandra; his nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews; and his many friends around the world. John’s legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched with his bold spirit and open heart. A traditional Old Fashioned Irish Wake will be held at the barn of his wonderful niece, Cindy Aitken, and her husband Mark, at 183322 Grey Road #9, RR #2, Holstein, Southgate, Ontario, N0G 2A0, on Saturday, September 27, 2025 3:00pm onwards. Food will be served, we will offer shots of Whiskey, Rum (John’s favourite), Bailey’s Irish Cream plus nonalcoholic options as well as a glass of celebratory sparkling wine). Parking available on the property. For those who choose to stay for a bonfire under the stars, there are Bed and Breakfast close by.
