Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Holland) MacDougall of Mount Forest, and formerly of Harriston, passed away at Palmerston & District Hospital on Friday, July 18, 2025, in her 73rd year surrounded by her family. Wife of the late Garry MacDougall. Daughter of Elaine Holland of Harriston, sister of Linda & Allan Hoffarth of Breslau, and sister-in-law of Candice & Tom Austin of Walkerton. Bonus second mom of BJ, Bradi, Brook, Brent Cochrane. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her father Everett Holland, brother Robert Holland, brother-in-law Roger MacDougall and wife Carole MacDougall, sister-in-law Theresa Cochrane and husband Brent Cochrane. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty, a beloved wife, aunt, and friend whose strength, kindness, and talent left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Betty was a true farm girl at heart. She grew up on the family farm just outside of Harriston, where she learned the value of hard work and proved she could hold her own with any chore or task. Her early years instilled in her a lifelong love of family, food and community. As a young woman, Betty worked for many years at the Green Lantern in Harriston, where she served customers with warmth and a ready smile. She later continued her service to the community at the Triangle Discount, becoming a friendly and familiar face to many. Her tireless work ethic and passion for food led her to cater weddings and other events, gaining a well-deserved reputation for her incredible meals and desserts. One of Betty’s greatest dreams was to own her own restaurant – and that dream came true when she and Garry purchased Susie’s. As “chief cook and bottle washer” (cooking, baking, cleaning, waiting tables, books, boss, ordering, you name it), Betty poured her heart into the restaurant, creating homemade dishes and signature desserts that became local favourites. She truly loved her staff and customers, and the feeling was mutual. To her family, Aunt Betty – or Aunt Bet – was so much more than a gifted cook. She was the go-to person for just about everything: from last-minute cooking advice to help with sewing, moving, gardening, or fixing something around the house. She was always just a phone call away, ready to lend a hand with patience and love. Her homemade pies and comforting meals brought family together and created memories that will be treasured forever. Betty was a true jack-of-all-trades-a woman of many talents who gave generously of her time and heart. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the joy of knowing her. Private arrangements entrusted to the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston. Memorial donations to Palmerston & District Hospital, Louise Marshal Hospital, Mount Forest or Minto Fire Department would be appreciated.
