Doreen passed peacefully into the arms of her Saviour on Sunday July 27, 2025 at Wellington Terrace in Fergus. Doreen, in her 87th year, is now reunited with her beloved husband, Joseph Merlen (2022). Eternally loved mother of Dale Joseph (Kerri) and Debra Ann. Cherished Grandma of Tyler (Jessica), Vanessa (Joel) and Allison Kropf, Alexis and Noah Ramage. Proud Great-Grandma of her five favourite boys, Emmett and Leo Morden and Nathan, Blake and Nolan Kropf. Survived by her dear siblings, sisters Marilyn (John Schuller), Arleen (Paul Meyer), Joan (Larry Kieswetter 2024), brother Dennis Schulz (Kathy) and her sister-in-law Bernice Wagler. Precious Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Eric and Vera Schulz and brother Harold, as well as many beloved extended family members. Along with her cherished husband and true partner, Merlen, Doreen enjoyed a long, full life of love, friendship and success. Together they built several businesses, most notably L&M Food Markets established in 1965, travelled the world and cherished their many friendships. Doreen enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking; which every visitor was welcomed to enjoy. Of German descent, Doreen was a strong, direct, loyal and caring person. Doreen’s family was her greatest blessing. She deeply loved each of us in her special and maternal way. It is of great comfort to our family that Mom was a woman of faith, who knew, loved and served her Lord. We thank God for the blessing of our wonderful matriarch, who now rests in His care. Special thanks to Dr. John Stickney for his exceptional care and friendship over many years. Our deepest gratitude to the staff at both Heritage River and Wellington Terrace for the outstanding love, attentiveness and support shown to Doreen and our family. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. S. Fergus (519-843-3100). Visitation will continue on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 10:00am to 11:00am at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 325 St. George St. W. Fergus. Doreen’s funeral service will be held at 11:00am.
