Aka Sophie Krupa aka Susan Filipowski aka Shash aka Aunt Zoe/Zosha. Born in Zakrzow, Poland on May 18, 1930, died peacefully in Elora, Ontario surrounded by her family on June 26, 2025. Cremation has taken place as per her wishes along with a private graveside Requiem Mass. A celebration of life will follow later this year. Susan/Sophie was predeceased by her loving son, Richard Filipowski (1995), her second husband Ernie Jacobs (1972), first husband Alec Filipowski (2004), her parents Walter and Marianne Krupa, sister Henrietta (Krupa) Pisarowski and brother Ted Krupa. She is survived by her loving family- daughter Justine (Jane Foster), Jane and Michele; granddaughters, Kate (Zach) and Ellie; great grandchildren Oren and Ruth. She so loved her granddaughters and was known widely as “Shash”(as if she needed more names) after a two-year-old Kate decided to blend “Susan” and “Babcia”. Susan is also survived by her nephew Gerald Pisarowski (Helen) and niece Joanne (Krupa) Sumpter (Ken) Susan is also fondly remembered by the Karek family of Brantford, the Posivy family of Vancouver/Toronto, Dixine Sullivan of Oakville and her wonderful caregiver Miranda Kissick. Susan immigrated to the Bathurst and Carr St area of Toronto when she was 5 years old. She and her mother, sister and brother joined her father who had arrived a few years before. Sophie went to Ryerson Public School and onward to her beloved Harbord Collegiate Institute where she was a gifted student and sportswoman and took part in every operetta. After initially raising her four children with Alec in Milton and Oakville, Susan returned to work at the end of her first marriage. She had a wonderful career with the Town of Oakville and Halton Region where she worked for over 25 years. Later, Susan was a much-admired real estate agent in Toronto West. Susan settled in her retirement years in the village of Elora close to her eldest daughter’s farm with the much-loved border collies. In Elora and Fergus, she was active in St Mary’s and St Joseph’s Catholic churches with the CWL and other church activities. She joined the Seniors centre where she practiced chair yoga and other offered exercise classes. Mom “The Shash” also played many rounds of spirited bridge and golf with her friends Wally, Eleanor, Diane, Marg, Helen, Lorna, Laura and the list of wonderful women goes on. Our family is deeply appreciative of Doctors John Stickney who managed mom’s care over the last year at Wellington Terrace and Jeff Jafferjee mom’s family physician prior to this move. Staff at Wellington Terrace you are amazing and gifted caregivers. Exceptional beyond any of our expectations. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Housekeeping/Environmental Services and the Front Desk staff you keep Wellington Terrace spotless and are so quick to clean up any mess or debris, install a TV or new aid, organize a wheel chair fix, do her laundry and the list goes on. Nutritional Services you make the best homemade soups. The care and attention you take to each person’s dietary needs and eating capabilities are well thought out and carefully planned. You know mom loved her food and especially the vanilla ice cream you made sure she had anytime she wanted. During mom’s stay the recreational staff, among others, had mom in a golf cart for a tour, gambling at the casino, in music therapy and even organizing a Polish Week and dinner. She was thrilled. Last but not least hats off to the entire Nursing/PSW/Care Aid staff. You caringly kept mom in line (not an easy job) and managed her medical and personal needs without exception. In addition, you compassionately assisted us move through mom’s changing needs. Helping us to understand what was going on and how we could assist mom and always explaining your involvement to us. The kindness and compassion of the entire staff and management at Wellington Terrace and Walnut Grove ensured the best quality of life possible for mom’s final year. Our gratitude is immeasurable.
