DEBOER, Grace (Geesje)

June 25, 1937 - July 15, 2025

It is with both sadness and gratitude for a life so well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Grace (Geesje) DeBoer, on July 15, 2025. Just hours before beginning her next journey, she was doing what she loved most, in the place she cherished – her home of 50 years and her beloved garden. Born on June 25, 1937, in Holland, Grace, at the age of 20, bravely immigrated to Canada in 1957 with her husband, John, and their 3-year-old daughter, Henny. Leaving behind family and friends, they embarked on a new beginning, settling in Salem, Ontario, where they resided for 68 years. Together, they raised their six children, who in turn blessed them with 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Grace poured the same love and support into all of them as she and John shared with each other. Her “mission trip children” from the Philippines were always proudly displayed on her wall, alongside the cherished photos of her own grandchildren. Grace was a dedicated volunteer, recognized by the Province of Ontario for her 25 years of service at Wellington Terrace, where she often assisted individuals younger than herself well into her early eighties. She was a vibrant and active member of the community, enjoying bowling, golfing, gardening, knitting, and quilting. As an active member of Central Church, she generously shared her talents to benefit others. Grace will be fondly remembered for hosting the “best parties,” whether for her grandchildren, family gatherings, or “bonfire buddies.” She was a true example of devotion and loyalty to all who knew her and will be deeply missed. Grace was predeceased by her beloved husband, John DeBoer (September 5, 1935 – July 12, 2003). Grace is lovingly remembered by her children: Henny Denny (partner Chris Miller), William and Maria DeBoer, Kate DeBoer, Arnold DeBoer (partner Karen McKenzie), Sandra and Bill Baird, and Evelyn and Bill Henderson. She was a grandmother to 20 grandchildren and their partners/spouses, and 16 great-grandchildren. Grace will be remembered dearly by her siblings Riek Kok and Willem (Joanne) Vanlenthe and her in-laws Jerry Krul, Alice DeBoer, Miny VanBlanken, Thys (Joyce) DeBoer, and Henk (Miny) DeBoer. She was predeceased by her siblings Mina Krul and Tiem Vanlenthe (late Margje) and her in-laws Geert Ten Kate, Johan Kok, Gerry DeBoer, Gerri DeBoer, Jan Vanblanken and Harm Van der Wiede. A private family visitation and burial have taken place. Friends and family were invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11:00am at Central Church (7674 Colborne Street, Elora), followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments in the church gymnasium. Those who were unable to attend the service are invited to watch virtually at https://www.centralchurch.life/watch/. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children Believe, and are greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Graham Giddy Funeral Home (280 St. David St. S., Fergus, 519-843-3100). Visit www.grahamgiddyfh.com for Grace’s online memorial.
