It is with love and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Victoria Chesney (Sopel) on Thursday, June 19th, 2025, at the age of 89, after enduring significant health challenges with quiet strength and resilience. She will be deeply missed and remembered every day by her daughters, Joanne (Dr. Victor Lawson (deceased 2025)) of Lexington, Kentucky, Carolyn (Robert Drost) of Inverhaugh, and Veronica of Ottawa. She is also survived by her sister Mary Atkinson (Melita, Manitoba). She was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband John, who passed away in 2015 after nearly 60 years of marriage, as well as her sister Stella Magadzia (2018) and her brother Peter Sopel (2014). As per her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Care has been entrusted to Corbett Funeral Home (Cambridge). As a proud veteran of the Canadian Air Force, which is where she met and fell in love with John, her ashes will be interred next to him in the National Military section of Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa. In memory of Victoria, memorial donations to Beechwood’s National Military Cemetery or a charity of your choice would be deeply appreciated by the family.
