CHALMERS, Ruth Jean (Kent)

January 13, 1926 - July 12, 2025

of London, and formerly of Palmerston and Galt, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025 in her 100th year, surrounded by her loving family at the Dearness LTC Home, London. She was born on January 13, 1926 in Galt, Ontario. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband Earl Chalmers on October 21, 1982. Loving mother of David Chalmers, and Jane & Guy Engels, all of London, and Robert & Armanda Chalmers of Kitchener. Cherished Grandma to her 6 grandchildren: Lisa Spicer & Jonathan, Christina Parker & Steven, Meghan Francis & Dillon, Matthew Chalmers, Madison Chalmers & Jack Morton, and Morgan Chalmers & Eric Brooks.  Adoring GG to Chester and Fiona Parker and Callie and Kinley Francis. Loved by many nieces and nephews and she always cherished growing up as a “big sister” to nephew Larry Beattie. Predeceased by her parents Joseph & Margaret (Gamble) Kent, Ruth was the last of her generation being predeceased by her siblings and their spouses – Harold & Dorothy Kent, Doris & Jack Crawford, Margaret & Art Chesney, Gilbert Beattie, Hugh Beattie (in infancy), Marie & Horace Thomson, and Barbara & Herb Eitel. Ruth grew up in Galt and was actively involved with St. David’s Anglican Church and Girl Guides. She worked as a bookkeeper at Vale Motors and the Galt Reporter. On October 5, 1957, she married Earl at Trinity Anglican Church in Galt and they moved to the Chalmers family farm on the 2nd Concession of Minto, just outside of Palmerston. She was a lifetime member of the Palmerston United Church Women-Unit D and the Women’s Institute. When her children became teenagers, she returned to the office and worked at the front desk of both Dr. George Vanner’s office and the Palmerston Hospital.  She moved to London in 2001 and enjoyed making new friends and life in her cozy apartment at Chelsey Park. The staff at Chelsey Park and especially the recreation department were so wonderful during her 19 years living there. She was thankful to spend 18 months during COVID safely living with Jane & Guy and loved seeing and getting to know her great-grandchildren during that time. Mom spent the past 3 ½ years living at the Dearness Home with a lovely room looking out on the woods with regular sightings of deer and wild turkey.  We would like to thank all the Dearness staff for their wonderful care and kindness. Mom has enjoyed many cherished, lasting friendships with her Galt, Palmerston and London friends during her lifetime. Faith, Family and Friends were the foundation of her life. Our Mom was a kind and gentle lady, and it was her wish that she be honoured with “random acts of kindness” in her memory. The funeral service will be held at James Street United Church, 215 James Street, Palmerston, on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 12:00 noon with visitation one hour prior and reception to follow. Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating.  The funeral will be livestreamed and the link available on the funeral home website.  Interment in Palmerston Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation or to the charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated and may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
