Passed away peacefully at his home in Harriston on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in his 84th year. Husband of Linda (Benham) Campbell. Father of Bonnie & Walter Buchko of Ancaster, Shawn Campbell & Cassandra Rodriguez del Angel of Burlington, and Heather Hosten of Hamilton. Grandfather of Hannah Buchko, Lucas Buchko, Thalia Hosten, Imogen Hosten Ayana Hosten, Elijah Campbell, and Nadia Campbell. Brother of John Campbell of Ottawa, and Lorne and Susan Campbell of Georgetown. Predeceased by his parents, brother Bruce Campbell, sister Ann Puttenham and husband Jack, and by his sister-in-law Pauline Campbell. Doug was born in Brampton and grew up on the family farm on Chinguacousy Sideroad. We hear he was a mischievous little brother and a gifted athlete. After finishing high school Doug started an apprenticeship as a mechanic. He and Linda got to know each other at the automotive repair shop in Snelgrove where he worked. They married during an ice storm in January 1967. Two years after they were wed the couple bought a garage in Harriston. The shop was a second home to Doug. Even at 83 he went to work every day. Doug and Linda raised their family in Harriston. In his younger years he was involved in stock car racing and the Harriston Kinsmen. He took pride in their role in building the Harriston pool and giving the children of the community a place to learn how to swim. When the kids were little, he could be found coaching them in baseball, making the announcement to “grab your suits kids, we’re going to the beach” or teaching them the value of hard work and a sense of humour. Doug could fix anything. Whether at the shop, at home or visiting his family he always had a creative idea about how to mend what was broken or build something new. He has acted as mentor and friend to many young mechanics. He loved having his kids and grandkids around him and would tell them to “come early- stay late”. His big heart, sense of humour, sparkling blue eyes and lopsided grin will be missed by all who know and love him. Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Monday, December 8th from 6:00 to 8:00pm, with a Masonic Lodge memorial service at 8:00pm. A private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 9th. Interment in Dixon’s Union Cemetery, Brampton. Memorial donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
