Susan Ruth Anderson Brown – Died peacefully December 17, 2025 after complications following a stroke in November. Susan was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1941, the youngest daughter of the late James Roy Anderson and the late Alma Athalinda Bigelow Anderson. She attended Quebec High School, graduating top of her Class of 1959, before earning her Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University (1963), Graduate Certification in Education from Bishop’s University (1965) and Specialist qualification in Counseling from the University of Toronto (1978). Susan married a fellow English Quebecer, the late John Nicholas Brown, in Quebec City in 1966. They started family roots in Toronto before moving to Barbados, back to Canada, Maryland, back to Canada and then finally settling in Connecticut in 1981. She proudly made her Canadian comeback to Elora in 1997, to be near her sister Heather Bigelow Porter & brother-in-law, George. Susan’s engagement and contributions to the Elora Community over the years are notable. She was an Elora Festival volunteer, Chair of Board Directors for Elora Festival Singers, Elora Centre of the Arts, fundraiser for En Plein Air, fundraiser for the St. John’s Anglican Church Parish Centre, Neighbourhood Woods volunteer, and helped ensure safer walkways for students to/from Centre Wellington District High School. She stayed fit for all these activities through her enthusiastic participation in the Elora Yoga Collective. Susan’s support for music and the arts lives on, as does her love of skating and hockey. Susan is survived by her two children, Janet and Alexander; grandchildren, Lucan, Julian and Hudson; and her late sister Heather’s family. Susan’s memorial service will be held at Christ Church in Drayton on January 24, 2026 at 1pm. If desired, donations in her memory can be made to Aboyne Rural Hospice, Jumpstart, National Public Radio or the charity of one’s choice and would be appreciated by the family.
